Porthleven Bowling Club is a combined lawn bowling and short mat bowls club affiliated to Bowls Cornwall and Cornwall County Short Mat Bowling Association with members participating in singles, pairs and team games mainly in West Cornwall but also in the whole of Cornwall and even at national level with several of our members representing us in major competitions at the home of English Bowls at Leamington
...... and we have loads of fun too! As well as the serious stuff we host friendly games and social events at every opportunity.
Porthleven Bowling Club is one of the most successful and well appointed bowls clubs in the area and we have a steadily increasing membership. Our green is in outstanding condition due mainly to a dedicated team of members along with a specialist contractor. We run several in-house competitions for the men’s section and ladies section as well as mixed competitions, and we participate in numerous competitions and leagues within West Cornwall, the whole of Cornwall and at national level.
Porthleven is the most southerly town in the country and is probably best known in recent years for the nationally aired footage of spectacular storms with enormous waves crashing into the harbour. Our bowling club is situated quite close to the harbour, in Methleigh Parc.
Our facilities include our 6 rink bowling green surrounded by a walkway with floral displays and seating for spectators, a large car park, our club house, men’s & ladies changing rooms and an equipment store.
During the winter months the green is closed and bowling moves inside. We own a top class mat for short mat bowling and all the necessary equipment. Because we play in our own clubhouse the mat stays in place throughout the short mat season and is available for members use every day from 10am to 10pm except for a few days when the clubhouse is used for specific other reasons, eg. Meetings and social games evenings.
New members are vital to keep the club growing and evolving. If you’re an experienced bowler that’s great; contact us to arrange membership ...... And if you’re a complete novice that’s even better! We’ll do everything we can to get you started. We have bowls you can use for practice and we have registered coaches to show you how to learn this fascinating game.
So click on the contact page and start the ball rolling! .... Literally!
